Tazorac Vs Tretinoin
Recent studies show that Tazorac is stronger than Tretinoin but does that mean Tazorac is better than Tretinoin for treating acne and wrinkles?
One study completed by Kang S, Leyden JJ, Lowe NJ, et al followed 349 men and women over 18 with different skin types that presented with facial photodamage. The study concluded that Tazarotene in a cream formulation is safe and is associated with positive changes in the treatment of photodamaged facial skin. BothTazarotene and tretinoin significantly improved mottled hyperpigmentation and fine wrinkles after 24 weeks.
Tazorac or Tretinoin for wrinkles?
Both Tazorac and Tretinoin are retinoids made from vitamin A derivatives. They work by neutralizing free radicals in the skin that causes damage to the production of collagen.
Collagen is essential to healthy, youthful-looking skin. As you age, your body begins to produce less collagen. and breaks down your collagen, elastin, and fat stores. This contributes to thin and sagging skin, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Retinoids do not only preserve your collagen stores but also promote new collagen production. reducing the appearance of fine lines wrinkles and preventing new ones from forming.
Tazarotene cream is proven to reduce the severity of fine wrinkles and mottled hyperpigmentation and ameliorates the overall condition of photodamaged skin.
Is tazarotene stronger than tretinoin?
Tazorac cream was found to be effective for treating facial acne in two clinical studies. It reduced the number of red and swollen spots, pimples, or cysts, and blackheads and whiteheads.
Results from these studies, and a separate split-face tolerability study, suggest that the tolerability of tazarotene gel is clinically comparable to that of tretinoin 0.025% gel, tretinoin 0.1% gel microsphere, and adapalene 0.1% gel.
