Tretinoin Retin A cream contains tretinoin in a retinol cream base in its purest form, also known as retinoic acid, and it is a generic name for synthetic vitamin A. It is a medication used for the treatment of acne.
Tretinoin is a derived form of Vitamin A. It is used to treat acne by unclogging blocked pores to prevent the formation and spread of acne, pimples, and blackheads. It increases skin cell turnover and reverses sun-damaged skin and Sun/Age spots. It is also used more predominately in advanced Anti-Aging skincare.
It effectively works by rapidly increasing skin cell turnover, increasing collagen production, removing dead skin cells, leaving brighter, more youthful skin, and minimizing unclogged pores.
Retin A Benefits Include
- Increasing skin cell turn over revealing a younger, brighter, more youthful complexion
- Reversing photodamaged skin Age/Sun Spots
- Reversing pigmentation and hyperpigmentation
- Tightens sagging, aging skin
- Reverses fine lines & Wrinkles

Retin A is hailed as the holy grail of skincare and is the only product on the market that is scientifically proven to reverse damage caused by the sun.
Retin-A, or tretinoin, is a form of vitamin A that was developed at the University of Pennsylvania in the 1960s. One of the most successful patents of all time, it revolutionized topical skincare and still has a great following today.
To understand how Retin A Cream works, it helps to understand the effects of ageing on the skin. The most superficial cells – the keratinocytes of the epidermis – tend to become more adhesive and hang around longer. This leaves the skin looking dryer and rougher.
The epidermal cells at the base also do not replicate as quickly, so the lifespan of these cells in the outer layer is much longer – and it can show. The pigmentation can become irregular and mottled because of this.
The deeper layer of cells, called the dermis, and the collagen bundles become thinner and disordered, allowing for creases and fine wrinkles to more easily show the muscular activity from below.
Directions of use – Apply a pea-sized amount to the corners of your eyes, nose and mouth after cleansing, before bed. Always use Retino A as your last product before bed, as this allows the tretinoin to be fully absorbed by your face without any sunlight affecting your skin. Also, it is important to keep your skin hydrated and use SPF 50 the following morning.
The manufacturer of Retin A Cream is Janssen, a company of Johnson & Johnson.
